How much will I really make doing this?
That's a good question, and there's no real way of knowing since each city has different cars that seem to do better than others. Here in NYC there are a lot of different types of clients, the average client seems to be vacation renters that are visiting and most want a lot of room and in the winter, cars with snow traction do better but in the summer are fun and whip around. We have wealthy clients renting out our G-wagons and Rolls Royce for the weekend while they are on business. Also we have a lot of local customers that want small and super cheap because their cars are in the shop and need a cheap car. so we devised a tier classification below to give you an idea of your earnings.
Tier 1 cars are like a Prius or Yaris or older Honda accord, we set ones like that at 40-70 a day, these will be rented very fast and most of the time out every day. (below I averaged $60).
Tier 2 cars are the average, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Tesla, Jeep..... average is about $100 a day, they average 80% booked or 20 days out of the month. (Below I averaged $100).
Tier 3 are exotics, average $200 to $600 a day. those are booked 30%-50% of the month depending on your market. (Below I averaged $200).
These figures are after Turo fees and the bottom number is what we are taking our fee from, so subtract the 35% fee and that's your free money for a week of doing nothing but making passive income. Imagine having 2 or 3 cars with us. Please keep in mind to do your math, I see some people going out and buying expensive cars to work Turo and they are getting $600 to $700 a month car payments to earn $1000 a month, be smart to know if this will work for you. Now if you just bought a hot new Tesla for $600 and lost your job or are going through financial difficulties then this is perfect for you to do to make your payments and not lose your car.
